Magaril, Mikhail
Born 1950. Mikhail Magaril is Russian-american painter and printmaker whose work combines the rebellious aesthetics of the Russian avant-garde of the early 1900’s, the linguistic ambiguities of the early Soviet absurdist literature and the critically minded playfulness of British and American Pop art of the 1970s. He self-taught book and poster restoration and became one of the premier restorers for Eastern European posters. His works are in prestigious collections such as the Hermitage, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Princeton University and Yale.
