Born 1924, died 2014. Jane Freilicher was an American representational painter of urban and country scenes from her homes in lower Manhattan and Water Mill, Long Island, whose brushy, light-saturated still life and luminous landscapes set in the marshes of eastern Long Island made her one of the more anomalous figures to emerge from the second generation of Abstract Expressionists. She was a member of the informal New York School beginning in the 1950s. Her works are in collections such as the Brooklyn Museum, New York University, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Museum of Modern Art, National Academy Museum and School, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
