Born 1937. While working as a graphic designer for General Motors, Arisman took evening courses in figure drawing. He went on to produce illustrations for major American periodicals including The New York Times, Mother Jones, The Nation, Time and Penthouse. He has also illustrated books, including Fitcher's Bird (1983), and Frozen Images (1974), published by Visual Arts Press. Chairman of the Illustration as Visual Essay degree program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, Marshall was the first American invited to exhibit his artwork in mainland China. His series “Sacred Monkeys” appeared at the Guangdong Museum of Art in April 1999. The New York Society of Etchers has published his work in the portfolio A Day at the Zoo and most recently, in two small portfolios, Primordial Light and The Ayahuasca. His works are in collections such as the Brooklyn Museum, the National Museum of American Art and the Smithsonian Institution.
